A 19th-century perspective of the Minnesota side of the Mississippi river between Lake Pepin & St. Croix River, captured as a steel engraving and handcolored to highlight the details. This engraving is from the "Universum," a continuing series of views published in America and Germany during the 1840s and 1850s by Hermann J. Meyer and his father Joseph. In 1849, Hermann Meyer moved to New York, where he issued most of the American scenes before returning to Germany in 1857.
