Collection: John Lambert

John Lambert (1742–1823) was a British traveler, writer, and artist best known for his detailed accounts and drawings of North America in the early 19th century. A former British army officer, Lambert visited the United States and Canada between 1806 and 1808, recording his observations in Travels through Canada and the United States of North America, published in London in 1810.

The work, illustrated with engravings based on his own sketches, provides valuable insight into early American society, industry, and landscape during the post-Revolutionary period. Lambert’s combination of firsthand reporting and artistic documentation makes his writings and illustrations an important early British perspective on the developing United States.
