From Die Unbekante Neue Weereld, the German edition of Arnoldus Montanus’ landmark 1671 work on the Americas. This engraved view depicts the coastal town of Huarmey, Peru, then known as Guarme, situated along the Pacific shoreline north of Lima. The composition captures the settlement and its harbor with European ships offshore, reflecting seventeenth-century Dutch curiosity about Spanish colonial ports and the geography of Peru’s maritime trade routes.
