Collection: V. Perard

Victor Perard (1870–1957) was a French-born American artist, illustrator, and teacher known for his instructional art books and finely executed drawings. Born in Paris, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts before emigrating to the United States, where he built a career as both an illustrator and educator.

Perard taught at the National Academy of Design in New York and illustrated numerous publications, including magazines, advertisements, and textbooks. He is best remembered for his widely used series of instructional manuals—such as Drawing: Faces and Features, Anatomy and Drawing, and How to Draw Animals—which trained generations of artists. His clear, practical style made him one of the most influential art instructors of the early 20th century.
