Collection: Thomas Worth

Thomas Worth (1834–1917) was an American illustrator and lithographer best known for his work with Currier & Ives. Born in New York City, he became one of the firm’s most prolific artists, creating hundreds of prints that depicted humorous scenes, social commentary, and aspects of everyday American life during the late 19th century.

Worth’s subjects ranged from sporting and equestrian scenes to political satire and comic series such as “Darktown,” reflecting the tastes and attitudes of his time. Beyond Currier & Ives, he also produced book and magazine illustrations. His lively compositions and sharp sense of character made him a defining figure in the visual culture of post–Civil War America.
