Collection: Thomas Holloway

Thomas Holloway (1748–1827) was a British engraver and draughtsman best known for his fine line engravings after works by Old Masters and contemporary artists. Born in London, he trained under the engraver Francesco Bartolozzi and established himself as one of England’s leading reproductive engravers of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Holloway’s most celebrated project was his series of large-scale engravings after Raphael’s cartoons for the Acts of the Apostles, commissioned by the British Museum—a work that occupied much of his later career. He also produced portrait engravings and plates for books and academic publications. Renowned for his precision and delicacy of line, Holloway helped set the standard for English engraving at the turn of the 19th century.
