Eden Vale in Waltham.

This 18th-century engraving was featured in the April 1793 edition of the Massachusetts Magazine. It presents a south view of Mr. John Boies's Paper Manufactory at Eden Vale in Waltham, Massachusetts. The scene includes his dwelling house, outbuildings, the meeting-house, and the residences of Messieurs Townsend and Pacy, all situated along the picturesque Charles River. Between 1780 and 1790, Boies first utilized the water power at the upper fall to power a paper mill. Located about ten miles from Boston and half a mile from the Great Road on the Plains, this site was renowned for its elegant and delightful setting and played a significant role in the early days of paper manufacturing in the United States.
