Henry Alexander Ogden (1856–1936) was an American illustrator and painter best known for his historical and military subjects. Born in Philadelphia, he studied at the Brooklyn Institute and began his career as a staff artist for Harper’s Weekly at the age of seventeen. His early work included illustrations of contemporary events and scenes of everyday American life, rendered with accuracy and vitality.

Ogden is most recognized for his series of military uniform plates commissioned by the U.S. Quartermaster General’s Office in the 1880s and 1890s, depicting the evolution of American Army dress from the Revolutionary era through the late 19th century. His illustrations remain a vital visual record of U.S. military history, valued for both their artistic quality and meticulous attention to detail.
