A fine map of Chile from Montanus' "De Nieuwe en Onbekende Weereld: of Beschryving van America." Oriented with North to the left, the map depicts the major portion of Chile that lies between 25 and 45 degrees South latitude. The Andes are shown in profile, and most of the major bays are identified by name. Although the outline is copied from Blaeu and Hondius, Montanus has added an ornate cartouche that fills most of the upper map and makes up for the lack of geographical knowledge.
