A well engraved map that appeared in Prevost "Historie Generale des Voyages...". This work covered all the known areas of the world. This map gives a detailed and early plan of Tokyo. It is patterned on the Scheuchzer/Kaempfer map of 1702. The Emperors Palace is shown. Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) was one of the most important and proficient French cartographers of the eighteenth century. He was appointed the first Ingenieur Hydrographe de la Marine, and also the Official Hydrographer to the French King.
